History of the NY Goofs (so far)

May 1998
Monday & Riley form the New York Goofs, in hopes of creating a safe haven for clowns and physical comedians to develop and hone material while working and growing together as an ensemble.

September 1998
The Goofs present their first production at the Miranda Theatre in NYC. The cast includes Monday, Riley, Michael Bongar, Kenny Raskin, Hilary Chaplain, Evelyn Tuths, James Curreri, Adam Auslander, Steve Alpert & Ned Callan.

December 1998
The Goofs present their second production at the ArcLight Theatre entitled "The Goof Family Christmas Special". The cast includes Monday, Riley, Michael Bongar, Kenny Raskin, Hilary Chaplain, Evelyn Tuths, James Curreri, Adam Auslander, Watson Kawecki and Barry Lubin. The New York Times calls the show "hilarious" and "a kind of demented Ed Sullivan Show".

Spring 1999
The Goofs make their Carnegie Hall debut and begin work on their third production. They also expand the company to include Jeff Smithson, Mark Gindick, Watson Kawecki, Todd Wilkerson and Peggy O'Neill.

Summer 1999
The First Annual Clown School is held and graduates twelve students. Simultaneously, the company performs "Hopped up on Goofballs" at the Flea Theater for six weeks, creating a new show every week.

September 1999
The International Children's Festival invites the Goofs to perform at their festival at Wolf Trap Farm Park in Vienna, VA. They share the stage with luminaries Bob McGrath & Big Bird. **They have continued to be a fixture at the Children's Festival every since.

February 2000
"Noses Off" marks the second production at The Flea Theater and is a clown play which tells the story of Slivers Oakley, a famous clown from the 1900's.

June 2000
Second Annual Ultimate Clown School is held with a terrific faculty including Larry Pisoni, Hovey Burgess, Barbara Karger, Evelyn Tuths, Barry Lubin, Michael Christensen, and a surprise visit from Carlos Mazzone Clemente.

Fall 2000
Goofs present shows at The International Children's Festival, The Kennedy Center, The Little Orchestra Society, The Museum of Natural History and Lincoln Center Reel to Real...all while the founders are toting their newborn son from show to show.

Spring 2001
Third Annual Ultimate Clown School a big success, and the Goofs present "Hopped up on Goofballs Again" at the Flea Theater

Summer 2001-2002
Monday & Riley are featured clowns with the Big Apple Circus and tour for a year while the Goofs continue to create as an ensemble expanding once again to include Joel Jeske and Matthew Morgan.

July 2002
Bob McGrath and The NY Goofs appear at Summerfest in Milwaukee to big crowds and give a new twist to tunes like "Doin' the Pigeon" and "I Love Trash"

August 2002
Fourth Annual Ultimate Clown School graduates 28 students.

Fall 2002
"Clown Brain" enjoys a six week run at The Flea Theater.

2003 2004 2005
Goofs continue to appear annually at Wolf Trap, River to River Festival and Symphony Space.

Spring 2005
"Clown Brain" introduces Texas to a new breed of clowns in the Out of the Loop Festival at the Water Tower Theatre in Dallas.

Spring 2006
Goofs expand roster of crazy clowns with Glen Heroy and Therese Schorn. Both bring years of goofiness to the group.
